One dies in cult clash in Ondo

A middle-aged man identified as Peter Sunday was reportedly killed during a clash that ensued between two rival cult groups in Ondo town, Ondo State.

According to a source, the incident occurred at about 8 pm on Monday.

It was gathered that the deceased who was also known as Marvin was a strong member of the Afee Confraternity.

The clash, which claimed the life of the deceased, was said to be a reprisal of the recent cult clash that occurred recently in the community.

The source explained that Late Sunday, who just completed his one year mandatory National Youths Service Corps, was sleeping in his father’s house located at Ebido Street, Ondo when some boys called him out.

“On getting out about four boys surrounded him and attacked him. He was shot at a very close range while the assailants quickly fled the scene,” the source narrated.

The source said efforts to save the life of the deceased was unsuccessful as he was said to have died on the spot.

It was gathered that shortly after the incident, some policemen from the anti-crime department of the Yaba divisional police station in the town, arrived the scene and evacuated the remains of the deceased to the mortuary.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the command had arrested 12 people in connection with the incident.

He said, “It is a cult clash incident but we have arrested 12 suspects and we are going to charge them to court.”
