Veteran English actor, Roger Moore, popular for his role as James Bond, has died today, May 23, 2017, aged 89.

His family confirmed the actor’s death, stating he passed on in Switzerland following a battle with cancer.

‘Our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer,’ their statement read.

Moore enjoyed an acting career spanning eight decades and is best known for his portrayal of Agent 007, James Bond.

He had featured in seven instalments of the film franchise: Live and Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985).

He became the longest-serving actor in the 007 role

Moore eventually became the longest-serving 007 actor, with his seven Bond films becoming the most commercially successful of the franchise.
