Arsenal target Onyekuru

By  |

ARSENAL are in talks to sign Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru, according to Express.co.uk

Arsenal have struggled to sign a world-class striker since the departure of Robin van Persie in 2012.

Alexis Sanchez led the front-line for much of the season and scored 29 goals for the club.

Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck are the other recognised forwards at the Emirates but have failed to convince.

And it appears Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has turned his attentions to a relatively unknown to solve his striker woes.

Onyekuru is the top scorer in Belgian football with 25 goals for KAS Eupen this season.

According to Sky Sports, the 19-year-old has a £6.8m release clause in his contract and is a big Arsenal fan.

Everton, Southampton, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Celtic have also been linked with Onyekuru in recent weeks.

After finishing fifth in the Premier League, critics believe major investment is needed to strengthen the Arsenal squad.

But Wenger has suggested only one or two players could come in.

He said,  “I think this group of players is good enough to come back.

“They have learned a lot and they have gone through difficult periods this season and they have bounced back in a very strong way.”
