The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has said that his desire to promote peaceful co-existence among the people of Edo State necessitated the establishment of an alternative dispute resolution committee in his palace.

Oba Ewuare II also noted that the ADR hall built in his palace would soon be inaugurated so that hearing in matters brought before the committee could commence.

The monarch disclosed this when he received the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at his palace in Benin, the state capital, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Desmond Agbama, on Sunday.

He assured the people that he would always promote and keep alive the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the Benin Kingdom, just as he did when he was ambassador to different countries.

He further stated that the role of journalists in any society could not be over-emphasised, in view of the risks they take in ensuring that the people are educated and informed.

He, however, urged media practitioners to continue to maintain their integrity and justify the confidence reposed in them.

“The Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, advised journalists to always cross-check facts, especially when it concerns the Benin monarch, before publication,” the statement added.
