A member of the National Youth Corps Service in Katsina State, Asisi Emilian Torishejo, was attacked on Saturday by hoodlums during the Dutsi/Mashi Federal Constituency by-election.

The incident occurred at about 12.58pm at Tashao Dankama polling unit in Dutsi town.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created following the death of its former representative, Sani Bello Mashi.

Torishejo, the assistant presiding officer for the polling station, was injured along with her colleague, David Okpara, who was also molested by the hoodlums, who carted away  the ballot box and copies of ballot papers during the election.

The hoodlums, who arrived the polling station in a light blue vehicle without plate number, brandishing cutlasses, spears and knives, manhandled the corps member, snatched her chain, handbag, phone and money,.

Other victims of the attack included a police sergeant, Amina Hamza, and a voter, Anwal Usman.

The development consequently brought the voting exercise at the station to an abrupt end.

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps later arrived and led the two NYSC members out of the polling station.
