Story highlights

He thought he had done with when he blew the trumpet for 48 minutes. But Femi Kuti was informed that even though he had surpassed Kenny G’s record of 46 minutes, he was still behind Vann Burchfield‘s Guinness Word Record of 47 minutes 6 seconds.

On Sunday night at the Afrikan Shrine, Femi Kuti officially broke Burchfield’s record and set a new record time of 51 minutes 35 seconds.

It is the longest time any human being has held a single note.

Although the Guinness World Record organization says it no longer recognizes the circular breathing method of blowing the saxophone and thus will not certify Femi achievement, it is still a feat worth celebrating.
