This one’s for you, Kane tells Spurs fans after beating Man United

Harry Kane hailed Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the last ever match at White Hart Lane as the perfect finale for the club’s loyal fans.

The Lane was packed to the rafters on an emotional afternoon in north London as Tottenham played their final fixture at the 118-year old stadium.

Tottenham will move to Wembley next season while the Lane is demolished to make way for a new arena and Kane admitted his team were desperate to bring the curtain down in style in tribute to the supporters who have backed them down the years.

They did just that thanks to Victor Wanyama’s opener and Kane’s close-range finish for his 28th goal of the season.

“What a way to finish. We wanted so badly win our last game here. Now we can enjoy it, take our families around the pitch and say thank you to the fans,” Kane said.

“I said before I’d love to score the winning goal and for it to happen is brilliant. To see it go in was special. It was a good cross, I just stuck a foot out.

“To sign off with a win against a tough team like Man United is special. It’s special to go a whole season unbeaten at home.”

Tottenham’s celebratory send-off was the idea way to forget the frustrations of their failed title bid.

Chelsea were confirmed as champions on Friday, making it a second successive year that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had fallen short in the title race.

England striker Kane is confident Tottenham can go one better next year.

“It’s disappointing to lose out on the title again, but we are getting better,” he said.

“We can get stronger. We’ve been third and second so hopefully we can be first next year.”
